mikie 0 Posted April 6, 2008 Has anyone got any idea what sort of revs the engine will run at 70mph with either a 205 diesel box or a 306 turbo diesel box? I have an mi running on carbs and currently have a 1.6 box which is great for acceleration but bad on fuel econamy.( Before you all say it i know that carbs arent fitted for fuel econamy but with the price of fuel going up all the time i have to try something) I would like to sit at 70mph at around 3000rpm or a little less. I am sure the engine has enough grunt to do this. Any ideas welcomed but ratios would be good.
DamirGTI 342 Posted April 6, 2008 Dunno but you can do some calculating , with this : http://zoldalma.webzona.hu/gear.html and here you'll find various gearbox ratios so just swap the numbers in the calculator above with requested gearbox/ratio : http://www.205gti.com/techgearboxUK.htm http://www.track-monkey.co.uk/downloads/205ratiosGti6.xls Rgs ! luggy 13 Posted April 6, 2008 (edited) When I was considering what box to put on my Mi conversion with a view of it being used as a daily driver, I had considered putting an Mi gearset with 1.6 FD still get 75 mph at 3.5K revs, a comprimise between Mi16 FD and 1.9 FD, which is a little too long. I bottled it in the end and just reconned the MI16 box complete. An additional advantage to that 1.6 FD and MI gearset is that you can get to 60mph in second gear!. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted April 8, 2008 No idea about the 306 TD gearbox although I don't think its that much different to the 205 one (maybe shorter) but my 205 TD shows 2750rpm @70mph but the 205 diesel gearbox I had fitted for a while showed about 2900rpm. Strange when they both have the 3.47FD & are supposed to have the same ratio's. Graham.
welshpug 1,661 Posted April 8, 2008 every 305+306+406+xantia I've driven have pulled around 3k @ 80 mph, bear in mind that they run 195 55 15 as std not 185 55 so the F/D will be a little different again.
philfingers 5 Posted April 12, 2008 The difference in fuel economy at 70mph between a std 1900 box and a 1900ratio/Mi16 FD with a std 8v in my old road rally 309 was 1-2mpg. This was over long runs between Birmingham and Aberdeen. 1900 box used to do about 3600rpm I think and the Mi hybrid (with 4.44) used to do about 4200rpm at 70. Feul economy 35 and 33 respectively. With the Mi16 FD tho anything much above 70 and fuel economy increased. at 80mph it's doing nearly 5k from memory. If your that bothered, fit the std injection and ditch the carbs!
