Oil Pump (is Removal Really As Easy As It Looks)

Recommended Posts

mojo1997

i'm in the process of changing the big end bearing and need to remove the oil pump to get at the last one.

Do you just undo the three securing bolts and swist the pump out, lifting the sprocket out and away from the chain or does the chain have a tensioner.....

Yeah one that washer is out just kinda jiggle it. lol

It is that straightforward, once the bolts are undone theres just enough slack in the chain.

Not all alloy XU's have the L shaped washer.

The pump height was modified to incorporate it on some models post April 1987 apparently.

I know the engines I've striipped (which have all been newer than that) have been a 30/70 split of with or without the spacer.

its a fairly simple bit of kit so not likely to have failed. Have a look at the intake and check for any debris, but unless its been swapped from another engine (and assuming the block your dismantling hasnt grenaded itself) it should be fine. You can split it and look at the gears, but it can be fiddly to compress it back together with the pressure spring fighting against you!

To get it out and refit is not difficult, just involvesd a bit of twisting, hard to explain but im sure you'll figure it out.
