The above picture shows the wheel coming into contact with the wing, the wheel arch trim is not fitted at present. Damage to the tyres has been on both sides although it is causing more damage to the drivers side.

I have fitted 309 TCA's (Manufactured by Motaquip). There is roughly a 7mm gap either side between the bonnet and wing, is this the norm for 205's when they left the factory?

A HPI check reveals that it was in an accident in 1993 and the car is registered August 1990, my thoughts are that it has had a front smack and been rebuilt incorrectly or that if the wings had been replaced they have less flare than what is normal?

Options seem to be to revert back to 205 TCA's and see if that cures the problem, can someone tell me what increase in length 309 TCA's give, I thought it was around 8mm but could be 12mm, i cant remember!

The tyres are Michelin pilot exalto PE2's 195/50/15 if that has any effect.

I never drove the car with 205 TCA's as I used this shell to reshell the graphite grey which was written off.

Cheers

Its got Skip Brown phase 1&2 suspension which is quite new, these are revalved PTS inserts fitted into pug struts, I think it will have bumpstops internally, if any, as the damper strut is 40 - 50mm in diameter.

The ride height is lowered by 25mm only.

have you trimmed the lip on the plastic arch trim back? mine did that for a bit, until i trimmed it and the rest wore away.

See I would have said that if it was the rear wheel but as you mention the use of 309 TCA's I assume these are the fronts yes ? I have all 309 stuff on mine and the rears rub on the plastic arches but Ive never had problems with the fronts and like you Im running a similar drop.

Ive never really checked the front clearance but Id imagine that its similar to yours as the 309 stuff pushes the wheels out by about 10mm I think. They do seem to sit quite far out though !

My only thought could be that non GTI front wings were used as they have to be lipped up. The 309 set up will help if anything as it cambers your wheel in at the top. A 205 TCA / wishbone would push it more square

This is without any arch trims fitted at present as I am not fitting them until I have resolved this.

Henry

The wings are GTI items as they have the holes to attach the arch trims, the lip is about 5mm horizontally is this not normal?

The car was originally a 1.9 and is running 309 shafts with 1.9 hubs.

Just wondering if someone has put the holes in for the arches after the event ;) I know I had to "adjust" the arch on my non gtis when I ran 1.9 wheels and it was lowered.

M@tt corrected me earlier today as the 205 stuff will put the wheel slightly further in as the pivot point is not the hub but the top mount.

It could be partially that more modern tyres have a much squarer shoulder. I have had this issue with my Proxis 4's on the back of my skip, where it has caught where others have not. However yours is relatively standard.

Ooohh, you are runnig standard top mounts aren't you and they are in correctly (not sure if you can put them in so they stick out too much, but I would have thought if you could, people would have been widening their track this way with the 309 arms)

My car has done this on the passenger side, I think the susp is too low, and needs winding up on the coilover.
