Guest jpward99 Posted April 2, 2008 Hi, Done a fair bit of searching, but strugging for a conclusive answer......AFM?SAD?Injectors?Temp sensor?..... 1991 1.9 GTI, standard apart from K&N kit. Running perfectly until a few weeks ago. Now starts no problem from cold (or warm), but runs very lumpy until warm (won't rev cleanly and only revs til 3000-4000) but doesn't stall. Once warm (5 mins) will rev cleanly to 5000/6000 without load, but under drive will only pull til 3000 then gets very lumpy and won't rev further (dip the clutch and rev without load again and will rev cleanly to 5k). Any ideas? Seems to be getting worse, and is getting very frustrating only being able to drive up to 3000rpm in each gear!! BTW: Due to a different issue 4 months ago the following were changed: Coil, Dizzy, plugs, Ht leads, amp, ecu, tachy. So should be able to rule them out (Although used daily I only cover 50 miles per week). Thanks, John
Baz 421 Posted April 2, 2008 (edited) You've uncovered the answers already, i'd start with the SAD and clean out all the breather pipes and go from there. Edit; after reading the other issues i'd try going back to your old leads/coil etc Edited April 2, 2008 by BazGTMi
Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted April 2, 2008 Dizzy cap/rotor arm? You don't mention if these have been changed?
Guest jpward99 Posted April 4, 2008 Guys, Thanks for your very prompt advice!! I let the tank run to almost empty yesterday and put a tenner in from a different filling station - instant change, now running perfectly again!!! **crosses fingers etc etc**. Also drove past the local filling station where I had filled up last a week or two ago, yesterday the unleaded pumps were turned off and today the place is 'temporarily closed'.......hmmmm coincidence?? Hopefully it was just dodgy fuel and hasn't caused any damage (has run fine the last two days and took it for a good ole blast tonite with no problems ). Just a pity I had to run it for two weeks on the dodgy £25 worth of fuel that I had put in to find out... Thanks again guys!! Just a note - could it be a total coincidence that all seemed well after I changed fuel? ie. the advice offered above (SAD) maybe temporarily has cleared itself?? Cheers, John
