Improving Mi16 Exhaust

Recommended Posts

fiji bob

I did do a search on mi exhausts but they are either random posts or full swaps, im thinking more alonng the lines of swapping the standard timax centre box for a straight pipe or different box i think the rear box might be a genuine one, the engine seems a bit sluggish to rev although this is compared to having only the manifold fitted so youd expect it to a certain extent but the difference was pretty big as in hitting the limiter almost instantly.

You could get a straight through centre section, then stick an ashley/piper/supersprint back box on it or something.

That would make it rev a bit free'er, but it'd also sound nice!

check out the pumaracing website, he goes into quite a bit of detail on the mi-16 exhaust system.

Miles

A good quality exhaust with a good 2" bore will be fine, any smaller and it will reduce power/torque, The std phase 2 system is pretty good, the group 'N' things a load of rubbish

I ditched the Longlife heap that was on the car when i got it, and just got a standard 1900 3 piece mild steel one on there now..

seems ok for me on mi16 revving to 7500rpm

its a standard 405, not sure if its still got the original exhaust but the downpipe had the divider think it might have just had the center box replaced. do you think the car would be too noisy for trackdays if the middle box was removed?

My old Mi had a centre box less system with a magnex backbox and was around 95db iirc. Bit of an ear ache after long motorway drives.

FYI the std centre box is straight thru' anyway.

In fact one of my old 205's had a centre box as a back-box aswel as the centre one, was a little raspy but sounding quite sporting, and not overly loud.
