Upgrade Rear Bem

Recommended Posts

Pt2051900tdic

Hi

I have a stock 1.9 rear beam and i want to upgrade it for fast road use.

What is the best setup?

25mm ARB?

21mm Torsion bars?

I have coilovers at the front with 200lbs springs.

Experts are wellcome! hehe

For fast road use your probably best upgrading to a 24mm anti roll bar, unless your using it on the track id leave the torsion bars as they are.

Also some solid rear beam mount from BBM are a good idea.

Most important thing though is that the beam thats on there is in good condition.

Na def change the torsion bars as you have already stiffened the front up, if you don't it just means understeer.

21mm sounds about right to me for those lb springs and should be fine on the road. I used 23mm bars and it was a bit stiff but nothing major, 21 should be fine.

Not sure on the ARB to be honest, I used 25 with no problems but am now running a standard arb with 20mm torsion bars and this seems fine to me.

The rear beam it's full rebuilt, and i have put the group A mounts on it.

Maybe i will buy a 21mm torsion bars and a 25 arb.

I have see in peugeot parts program the peugeot 106 gti have 22mm arb on front and 24mm arb on back so i thing the 25mm on the back will be good for the 205.

I'd go with 21mm bars 23mm ARB, you really want less ARB the bigger the bars yet.

I found that with 285lbs front, and 24mm bars on the back a 27mm ARB unless on slicks was too much and would cause "wag" on the back wheel in heavy/fast cornering, not a nice characterisitc, the slicks would stop the tail from sliding out, and for road and Ring use opted to run a std 19mm ARB.

I'm moving to 300lbs and 25mm bars with a 22mm ARB this time round, and a 350 front springs for semi's and 30mm ARB

You might find it better to swap in the std ARB for road usage.

I run a 309 beam with 22mm torsion and 22mm anti-roll bars on it (along with Challenge shocks, ZX arms and Group A mounts), and that's fine for the road

Now you have sepak on the Zx rear arms, and i'm a litle confused. Only the zx 16v have negative camber? or the other models have also? I know a zx 5 doors but maybe the arms are not the same.

All ZX's have the same setting, only volcanes and 16v's have disc brake rear arms, but it's easy to knock the stub axle out (with a nylon hammer) and swap the caliper carrier over.

The 0deg toe helps turn in :)

Also run them on mine, but that wasn't in the question so didn't mention it lol
