cheapthrills 0 Posted April 1, 2008 i'm in the process of stripping down a front valance and prepping the rear arches for paint, due to rust issues. i havent bought paint for the job yet, i'm assuming i'll have to get a water based paint? will there be any issues/reaction between the o/e finish and the new paint when it comes to blending the arches? the car is graphite grey whats the story with drying the paint, do i really heat lamps? final question... i have 2k primer and clear left over from a previous job, can i use them in combination with the water based? any info would be much appreciated andy Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
boombang 2 Posted April 1, 2008 You can still get cellulose and 2pak (RIP), if you're using 2k, would go for same as top. The restrictions in sales IIRC only apply to those who sell over a certain amount of the product. Best find someone who can geninely match the paint maybe? Paintguy 0 Posted April 3, 2008 As said, you may still be able to get hold of 'old' solvent basecoat if you'd prefer to use that, but there's no real drama if you need to use a water based one. You're current primer and clear will be fine with a water borne base, you just need to ensure the base is absolutely dry before lacquering it. It goes on the same as solvent (if not easier), and won't react with anything. Drying needs a combination of air movement and gentle heat - for a small area a hairdryer or hot air gun is ideal Hope that helps, but feel free to ask any more Q's Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
