willxs 0 Posted April 1, 2008 As title really. anyone any recommend any gearbox oil for a gti-6 gearbox? and how much it uses? Did a quick search but nothing specific came up. Cheers, Will
welshpug 1,657 Posted April 1, 2008 75w 80, make sure its PSA spec (total BV ESSO BV etc) main dealer is probably one of the cheapest places to get it, you'll need 2 litres.

wardy18 33 1 Cars Posted April 1, 2008 i always use the Duckhams 75w 90 stuff!! seems to do the job
welshpug 1,657 Posted April 1, 2008 too thick, PSA boxes are sooo much better on the proper 75w80, and with how cheap the dealers sell it its daft to use anything else. I was speaking to a PSA specialist a few weeks ago about this, he said many of the more recent PSA boxes have been reported as being very stiff and notchy after a clutch change, a swap to the proper specification oil (not just straight 75w80) restored the smooth changes and quietened the boxes down. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted April 1, 2008 GSF no longer list the correct 75w80 grade gearoil on the website but show Total BV in the parts catalogue @ £3.50 / litre. Graham.
willxs 0 Posted April 1, 2008 oh dear. Just been to pug and for some ridiculous reason ended up paying £23 for 2litres of valvoline 75w80. The stuff best do miracles at that price! God knows why i said yes.... Doh! Graham - got the nuts! Big thanks! Cheers, Will
andychalmers 0 Posted April 1, 2008 I'll second Total BV 75/80 oil (Peugeot now have changed to Esso BV), I've been reccomended it by many peugeot motorsport companies over the years such as skip brown etc. I've been rallying for 5 years and wont touch anything else. Last lot cost me less than £20 for 2 x 2ltr bottles from main dealer.
Chris H 10 Posted April 1, 2008 I'd also say Total BV....and agree that shifting is much better with a 75w80 You can get a halfords equivalent now, not used it personally but from what i'm heard its a match for the total stuff and probably pretty cheap with a tradecard
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted April 1, 2008 I've got Comma 75w80 in my gearboxes & they are fine. Cost £3.45 / litre. It probably gets changed every two years tbh, not strictly needed but if I drain the gearbox a couple of times it will invariabley get some dirt in so I just put fresh stuff back in. Graham.
