Dan Ingram 1 Posted March 31, 2008 Will a 1.9 Mi loom and ECU work ok on a 2.0 litre Mi?
welshpug 1,661 Posted March 31, 2008 not without some sort of adapter for the dizzy, bit of a step backwards really, hold out for some 2.0 management if you can as its far superior.
Dan Ingram 1 Posted March 31, 2008 I'm using a 1.9 Mi inlet if that makes any difference. Whats the difference in the 1.9 and 2.0 management?
welshpug 1,661 Posted March 31, 2008 map sensor + coilpacks, soooo much better
Dan Ingram 1 Posted March 31, 2008 What does the map sensor do exactly?
welshpug 1,661 Posted March 31, 2008 senses the Manifold Absolute Pressure, in other word the load on the engine, coupled with input from the throttle potentiometer it has a finer degree of control over the ignition and fuelling than the older Motronic + jetronic system. its also made for that engine, which the 1.9 system certainly isnt. Dan Ingram 1 Posted March 31, 2008 Does the 2.0 management not use a dizzy cap and rotor arm then? If not what tells the coils when to fire? Sorry for all the questions I haven't a clue about engine management and cant really find much info on the 2.0 system.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 31, 2008 With the Mi dizzy cap, inlet & ecu etc it'll work fine. Just ask Miles, he ran one like this at FCS a few years ago iirc. Graham.
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted March 31, 2008 I;ve done a few like this and to be honest it is better than all the 2.0 rubbish, You'll just need the 1.9 inlet cam and stat housing, block the oil drain hole with a core plug and thats basically it, Mine made about 170bhp and good torque running a std engine bar a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold. Dan Ingram 1 Posted March 31, 2008 Whats the difference in the 1.9 inlet cam and the 2.0 inlet cam? Also is the 1.9 stat housing the same as the 8v one so the dizzy just bolts straight on to the head?
KRISKARRERA 2 1 Cars Posted March 31, 2008 I hate that coil for each spark plug crap that all cars seem to have now. The motronic 3.1 with remote coil and HT leads is better surely.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 31, 2008 Whats the difference in the 1.9 inlet cam and the 2.0 inlet cam? Don't know the differences between lift & durantion but the Mi inlet has the tab & threaded end for the rotor arm to fit the end of the cam afaik. Also is the 1.9 stat housing the same as the 8v one so the dizzy just bolts straight on to the head? No, you need one for an Mi16. 8v one isn no good. Graham. Miles 331 1 Cars Posted April 1, 2008 The cam spec is basically the same from memory, as said you won;t have the coil packs packing up all the time You'll need the 1.9 Mi stat housing, the Dizzy cap and arm
petert 588 Posted April 1, 2008 Whats the difference in the 1.9 inlet cam and the 2.0 inlet cam? They have the same lift but the 1.9L cam has slightly more duration. Not enough for the effort of a cam swap in my opinion, but you'll need one if you want to run a dizzy. You'll need to fit cam seals on the dizzy end.
Dan Ingram 1 Posted April 10, 2008 If I fit the 1.9 inlet cam will I be ok with the 2.0 pulley and timing belt.?
