Ever Seen A Stub Axle Do This?

Removed of a friends beam, was loads of play and we just assumed it was the wheel bearing.

err, has that puller through? :ph34r: not seen that myself but I've heard of them bending and breaking.

Yep, the end had pulled off! Heard of them bending and snapping but never the ends falling off.

When I converted a beam a few years ago I thought I hadn't pulled it though enough so put a bit of extra pressure on it and it came straight through.

we had a 306 in onces and it was driving round with it broken pin for ages before he noticed.

Its never happened to me but I've seen it on a beam I stripped for spares before where the head had sheared off leaving it just like that.

 

Threw it straight in the bin & fitted another obviously.

That was like that for about 9 months.... passed an mot aswell! He replaced the rear wheel bearing once and it still had play so returned the bearing for another which still had play in it. :ph34r:

is the end the big bit wth what looks like a large allen key hole in it?

 

i take it they are usually pressed out from the threaded end when removed?

 

although i've done lots of beams not done much with these stub axels (once i tried unscrewing it with an allen key :ph34r: )

They should have a big end bit on so they only come out from behind.
