maxi 36 1 Cars Posted March 30, 2008 My cills have started to go rotten again (last repair around 2 years ago) and to be honest I think its time to put a whole new item on. As has been said many times, the only way to get rid of rust properly is to replace the rotten metal. So, any experiences? Maxi
Emmy Seize 8 Posted March 30, 2008 (edited) It´s "sills" you´re talking about, right? If so and if the car in question is a three-door, replacement is pretty straightforward and easier than on most other cars. As there is a seam between sill and rear side panel, removing the old part mainly involves drilling out spot-welds. Having a spot welder at hand certainly makes for a nice finnish and helps rustprotection, but is not mandatory. Very good results can be achieved with MIG-welding it as well. Just work on one side at a time and make sure you don´t move the car around, while the sills are out. Edited March 30, 2008 by Emmy Seize
davepug205 7 Posted March 30, 2008 Im also looking to do this in the next few weeks along with the front panel and wings, The thing that bothers me is the rear quarter at the seam, I dont know how you would get the finish right. Also the replacement sills look like they go up behind the rear quarters. Also wheres the best place to buy them from?
Andy_C 50 Posted March 31, 2008 Maxi - I can recommend a place down my way for this sort of thing. Happy to give you their contact details. Bit of a hike from where you are but well worth it IMVHO
