How Do I Tell Which Way Round The Head Gasket Is Supposed To Be On A 1991 205 gti 1.9?

It will only fit one way "round". You could get it upside down but usually there is a marking saying "top" somewhere.

i cant find any markings, only the model number

The tab on the end of the gasket should be on the distributor side.

 

If its upside down it will cover the oil hole on the left front of the block.
