Im After Yet More Help!

Recommended Posts

rallyeluke

as the car currently stands (205 1.9 gti 1991 non cat)

the head and everything else is off. the bottom end is locked in place through the hole in the crank pulley

i forgot to remove the crank pulley as i said in my previouse post.

im about to put the car back together now and need to eventually take the pulley off to gain acces to fitting the cambelt etc.

right so my question is what do i use for locking the bottom end in place once the pulley is removed? as surely the thing that locks the bottom end in place is the whole through the crank pulley.

do i just remove the crank pulley to gain access to cam belt, then take belt out and fit new one on then bolt pulley back onto bottom end? or is there another hole somewhere i use for lockin bottom end?

cheers lucas

Put the head back on before you move the bottom end, or you may distrub the liner seals, then once the head's back on, you can indeed use that to lock the bottom end, swap the belt on, then refit the pulley and time up the top.

also just got my new head through the post. the top was not locked in place so do i just turn the cam sprocket round till i can fit the locking pin through the hole in the sprocket into the head and make sure the valves are in the same position as they are on my old head which was locked in the correct place to work with my bottom end?

Turn the sprocket & cam until the timing pin hole on the pulley lines up with the hole on the head. Then your valves should be in the same position as you old head.

Is the crank pulley bolt loosened?

If your head is off & there is no compression in the cylinders then you won't need anything to hold the crank in place, the crank pin holds the pistons level in the bores so they won't go anywhere anyway.

Graham.
