ok its all running sweet as hell part from what looks like headgasket failyer (cream in oil filler) but i did spill water next to indution kit so might just be from that not 100% on that atm.

spedo just doesnt work. tryed new clocks new cable tryed putting the car on stands and seeing if cable moves but some noise is comming from the gearbox but nothing happening. i think the gearbox might be gone but i dont see how i took it off my 1.6 gti (so its a 1.6 BE3 box mated to a mi16 flywheel and clutch). but spedo just doesnt work at all. anyone have any ideas on this?

also when i push the brake pedle the side lights come on and dash lights up :S any ideas?

i have got a spare BE3 box (again a 1.6 box) so if its the gearbox shot i can always swap just wanted to see what everyone thought on here?

was followed by the police today pritty damn scary when u dont no what speed your doing in a unfermiliar car!!!

Have you got a single filament tail light bulb in when you should have a top and tail for the brakes or a bad earth?

As long as the cable isnt broken and if it still doesnt spin, it will be the nylon speedo drive inside the box which will have stripped its teeth i would have thought. Try taking the speedo cable housing off of the box and see what you can see.

Once when I changed a gearbox I had no working speedo on the subsequent test drive. All that had happened was that the cable wasn't engaged in the drive pinion in the gearbox properly. It had somehow got misplaced down the side. I took it apart, refitted the inner cable properly and all was well. I hope yours is that simple.
