How Do I Remove The Tailgate Trim Panel?

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

I need to swap a tailgate rear panel over this weekend (the grey exterior plastic bit with ‘Peugeot’ and 205 GTi’ on it).

I remember reading on this forum that there is special technique for removing them without breaking anything, something to do with a pizza slicer :lol: if I recall correctly. I have done a search and can’t find the thread explain what to do, can anyone remember?

Thanks

Jonny

Remove the lock (unclip from inside), prise the badges off, get rid of dried mud from behind badges and then prise off the little metal clips hiding in the mud. There might also be a fragile plastic lug that goes through the tailgate around the middle of the panel, which will be secured from behind by a washer type clip thing, so prise that off too. Then gently ease the panel downwards off the tailgate, while carefully easing it over (bend it outwards away from the tailgate) any protruding clips. You might need to jiggle the panel side to side and back and forth a bit to work it off the tailgate.

Not really difficult if you take care.
