Rear Flexible Brake Hose?!

Just trying to change the driver's side rear brake hose but I can't get a spanner to the top bit to unscrew - has anyone got any tips? doesn't seem to be much room with the rear bean in the way to unscrew it!

Unscrew the union from the solid brake pipe side, remove the metal clip and the flexi pipe should lift off. You dont actually unscrew that end of the flexi pipe, the hex on the pipe is very misleading!

finding it very hard to get behind the top bit, I think I know what you mean though - just getting there is the problem at the mo :)

get a 10mm socket on an extension bar and uncrew the 10mm nut that holds the little metal bracket onto the shell above the rear beam. Undoing this will allow you to "gently" pull the bracket forward allong with the copper brake line, this allows alot better access to the back connector. As the bracket isn't attached anymore you'll need to put a spanner on the other side of the connector to stop the bracket et all trying to spin as you try to undo it.

 

I did this last night after some time spent fannying round trying to get to the back of the bracket. Was pretty quick and easy that way.

i know its a daft question but have you taken the wheel off ,lol,when i changed mine i just cut the old one in 1/2 and just screwed it off

Its a bit awkward as the lads say, when I did mine I took the exhaust off to get some more room. Also get the car as high up (safely, on stands) as you can, makes things easier when you've some room to manoeuver.

Thanks for all your help so far..

 

Its up pretty high, on stands so have lots of room to manouvre cos as you say it does make things easier... now this bracket I had noticed, just went and have a fiddle with it.. its so badly corroded that its become circular... tried vicegrips but they cant get enough of a bite on it.

 

The lower hose attachment is easy enough to get to, its just that top one... what a nightmare its turning out to be...

 

Any more ideas?

can you get a slightly smaller imperial sized socket and whack it onto the rounded nutalso get some plus gas or the like on it before hand or even some heat from a blow torch but fuel tanks not far away so probably not the best idea on that front.

That nut and bolt was seized on mine, I took the air saw to it.

mine snapped off so I punched the remains of the stud through and stuck a nut and bolt there.
