malyso 0 Posted March 26, 2008 I've just got my radiator out of the car (mi16 205) and I initially thought it was the original 1.6 or even a 1.9 standard one but it has a coolant feed off the lower left hand facing side running to the oil cooler on the engine. Is this standard on the original 205 rads before i go and order another one?
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 26, 2008 Hmm, not exacty sure from your description but the standard 205 rad, (TU or XU engine) has an offtake at the lower offside (L/H as you look at engine bay) & another at the top N/S to the thermostat housing. Sounds like the coolant path / piping has been modified to fit the oil/water heat exchanger into the circuit. See attached pictures, left one is an XS/ Auto or lower model still with the fan shroud fitted & right is a GTI / diesel radiator without a shroud fitted. Graham. malyso 0 Posted March 26, 2008 The bottom one looks like mine, does it have a threaded hole just above the lower hose like the first picture below? This is where the oil cooler pipe screws into and the dimensions are approx 610 wide and 295 high not including the end caps... http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j161/mal...05/DSC00509.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j161/mal...05/DSC00510.jpg
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 26, 2008 If those pictures are of yours then its a standard 205 GTI / diesel radiator. Airedale Autoparts can get them for under £50 afaik. The extra thread above the lower hose fitting is usually just a blanking plug. Some early cars used to have the fan switch there iirc but the one in your lower picture has a blank where the fan switch should be under the top hose fitting. Graham.
