Loads Of V6 Wiring Help Needed

Recommended Posts

M_R_205

Going against advice somewhat im going to stick with the V6 loom and ecu as i think iv got everything i need and im to poor to buy anything else B)

Im sure iv found the 3 ECU plugs but im stumped on prety much everything else... theres a small round connector on the ecu loom which im assuming is similar to the GTI brown multiplug, and contains maily guages and starter etc..

If you know what one of the connectors is for that im unsure let me know, and if it connects to one of the other "unsure`s" (oh and i also have the throttle thing if that conneects anywhere let me know also :D )

Now im assuming the connectors in this pic are ECU, they certainly look like they fit

No idea about either of these two in the same area as the previos pic,

The following three iv no idea what there for

The following set of pics are all off the loom, and i can Id only one as being a possible ECU cnnector

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k296/con...ne/IMG_1581.jpg

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k296/con...ne/IMG_1582.jpg

And finaly iv no idea what this is, my first thoughts was a fuel line if it is i cant see the return anywhere :)

A big thanks to anyone who can help (especialy Hilgert as he`s helped me so much already with the engine codes :D )

Paul

(P.S, any mods that think this should be in a different section im sorry i wasnt to sure where to put it)

im fairly sure its an engine cut of switch incase the car is in a crash, or maybe a fuel /batery cut off? somthing along those lines...

It cuts power to the fuel pump in the event of a shunt :)

Think carefully about keeping the inertia switch if you are running a 205 with stiff suspension, they really dont take much to trigger. When Maxis std 306 GTI-6 snapped a spring (randomly whilst parked up in the middle of the night!), this was enough to trip the intertia switch. One good sized pothole in a lowered 205 would do it...

I tripped mine twice on track over rumble strips before i removed it. I'd ditch it if i were you.

The round plug in the last pic will be a multiplug going to the car I would think, it could be for the immobiliser or air con etc, or it could be starter, guages, switched lives etc. Looks a tad small for the main multiplug, is there another similar connecter? Perhaps one of the suspect ECU plugs will be another? Really, you want to strip back the wrapping and note the wire numbers, then cross reference with a wiring diagram. The two and three pin connectors are usually all sensors (ECU temp, coolant temp, knock sensor, oil pressure etc..) and should mostly be colour coded, the wire lengths should give you an idea of which general area there located.

Im clueless with the V6 engine but hopefully it might help you to start looking in the right places. If your ditching the inertia switch as recommended just bridge the two wires going into it creating a permanant circuit.

There is a much larger multi plug iv not pictured which im assuming does all that you have listed,

I totally forgot about the potential immobiliser circuit...

If anyone knows where i ca get a wiring diagram from id be much appreciated, (2001 406 v6 coupe) or if any one has a Haynes manual with one in they could scan for me :)

The best way to deal with the imobiliser is to post the ECU off to someone like the ECU doctor and get it unlocked, unless you have the original key and ignition barrel you wont get past it yourself.

Is this the later VVT v6 engine? bits of this loom look different to mine!

the last pic is the EVAP canister pipe.

what you need to do is to look at each plug and pop a label on them, each wire should have a number on it, luckily Peugeot have numbered the wires functions the same across the range, so a component list for a 2.0 406 will get you some way to finding what the wires do.

You have pre-empted one of my next question, which was going to be where can i get the ecu un locked lol

Yes it is the vvt engine, took me bloody ages to find one too :)

Ahh i didnt realise the wiring numbers were the same across the range, i printed that out and tryed to trace some of the wires/components but got confused/frustrated as i was tired...

Progress report:---

i spent 2 hours last night getting angry with my engine and pulling my hair out  the numbers on the wires are either hidden by the connector, masivly faded, or just not there!!

No one have any ideas what those connecters are for??

I've send you a PM...this engine will be a nightmare to get running as you need most of the CANbus stuff from the interior as well. I'd swap the electronic throttlebody for a regular one and run it on KMS.
