[engine_work] Well I've Started My Sorrento Gti6 Project

Recommended Posts

Peetypug

i tried to block one of the outlets, but didn't have anything suitable to block i with.

Thats why i've done it like i have

I'll give it a try and see how it goes, i may end up taking the black pipe off sometime down the line if it doesn't work very well

Alot of the time you will find those 4 port ones come with a port blocked off using a rubber bung, may be worth a look if your ever ever up your local scrap yard. :)

You can buy the bung from peugeot to go over one of the outlets on the back of the block, this is what i did and fed the black metal pipe into the bottom of the header tank, then blocked off the top right header tank outlet with a bung that comes with an old ford water pump, fitted perfectly :D.

Cooling system is spot on, fan kicks in at about 95 and stays on for about 30 seconds.

The part number for the bung is 0245 16.

Hope this helps

i've decided to stick with the cooling plan that i've drawn, i'm just going to extend the oil cooler pipes

i'm getting my new, unbodged loom back in the very near future, thanks to jonnie205 and spiky (both top blokes :D)

the cam belt, tensioners and water pump will be swapped today, as will the input shaft oil seal in the gearbox and i may put a few washers behind the bolts from the pedal box that go into the bulk head (just for that extra couple of mm master cylinder clearance)

then i'm at alton towers tomorrow, hope it doesnt rain :(

sunday i'll sort the alternator tensioner using an 8v jobbie, get the lower fork extended and see what sort of clearance i've got

i may have to experiment with the rs2000 mount and see what thats like before i decide to tilt or lower the engine

then hopefully............... the engine will go in on sunday ;):o

i never thought i'd see the day that that would happen or even be close to happening :)

Its still good in the rain though......only if the ski lift does not catch on fire when your there!! :)

I got evactuated half way through a ride.......but its defently one of the best theme parks ive been to.

There is a ride there which really did spin me out.....at the top of the hill there's a castle with Oblivion on the right hand side, if you go to the left there and go to something called Hex. It looks like just a normall tour through the castle but what it ends at is trully fbar.

Projects coming alond nicely by the way,

Neil

well

i've made a bit of progress, what do you mean "about time"

after fitting the gearbox and new bushes and input shaft oil seal, i went over everything to make sure it was right

only to find that one of the selector arms was diffrent to the other 1.6 box i have

instead of having a ball on it it had a bolt (i'm thinking it had rose jointed gear rods)

th_205rebuild006.jpg

it was a bloody tight fit and i hope i dont have to take it out again any time soon!

i had to knock on my neighbours house to get him to help B)

th_205rebuild004.jpg

i also fitted the 6 brakes while i had chance

th_205rebuild005.jpg

before anybody says anything yes the engine bay is an odd colour.............. its hammerite :)

Yup, certainly looks as though that selector arm's been converted for rose jointed linkages as you say.

Keep up the good work, try and get lots in before the cold sets in!! B)

really enjoying reading this, .. could you quickly list the modifications you have done so far to make the engine sit where it is, have you extended the lower fork for fitted anything other than the bbm baker uprated engine mounts to make the engine site where , with that clearance on your master cylinder.

looking good Pete

looks like you'll need to tilt that servo slightly (washers between bottom bolts and bulkhead) or do as i did and extend the bottom mount fork and grind the cam cover slightly

I got enough clearance for an S16 by moving the servo itself on the pedal box, grind away the holes till it sits in the right place and use some suitable washers or weld up the old holes.

still had to tilt the engine a little to get the exhaust in though.

firstly its sat on standard size mounts

I've extended the fork by about 10mm but its not got the right bolt through the bush so its still got a few mm movement

I've shaved a little bit off the cam belt cover

The servo has 2 washers on each of its lower 2 pins.

I'm going to have a bit of a play around with it on saturday to see what i can do

I'm thinking of using some washers on the pedal box itself

I didn't use any "washers" just moved the servo up as far as possible and to the left a touch.

does that not effect your brakes at all?

Surely it moves everything out of line with the brake pedal?

its better than using washers under the M/C IMO, the rod from the pedal has a balljoint on the end so moving the servo didn't affect anything at all.

i think i may give that a go

been thinking about the car tonight.

While fitting the loom i noticed that there was no positive feed for the starter

I've read somewhere that i needed to keep the positive terminal and wires from the 306 and that this will provide the +ive for the starter

Well as its been 2 years since i started this project i've misplaced some of my wiring from the fusebox side loom.

Does the feed for it come from the small fuse box that bolts to the slam panel?
