Rupes 0 Posted March 25, 2008 The clutch arm has come loose. I thought the plastic pins holding the ball to the arm had broken but on investigation it's the socket that the ball plugs into on the gearbox that's broken, is this fixable, there's a chunk of metal missing? Araldite perhaps, or red loctite, how strong does it have to be? I think it's a BE1 box, but I don't know for definate. Pic below shows broken bit (I hope the link works, I've never used photosharing sites before). Gearbox The next two show the ID numbers on the box, just in case it's a BE3 afterall, anyone know? Batfink 201 Posted March 25, 2008 looks like a be1 gearbox to me
jord294 92 Posted March 25, 2008 it's a be1 for sure i've never seen there break before. i suppose it could be repaired with some instant metal or something.
Rupes 0 Posted March 26, 2008 (edited) Thanks Batfink and jord294. Anyone want to swap (PX) a BE1 (great box apart from the very minor flaw mentioned above) for a BE3 (from a 1.9)? I can check whether it's a 1.9 or a 1.6 box by removing the dif cover and checking numbers or counting cog teeth I believe, if anyone's interested I'll have a look at the weekend. welshpug 1,657 Posted March 26, 2008 (edited) depending on how old the box is you can usually fit the BE3 clutch release arm and brackets to a BE1 (and vice versa) check whether there are any blanking plugs top and bottom of the front edge of the bellhousing. if you still have the broken bit of the casing however you can have it welded back on. Rupes 0 Posted March 26, 2008 Thanks welshpug, I don't have the BE3 spares unfortunately. Thanks for offers of BE3's, I'm well and truely interested if the postage isn't too much or if I can collect. Let me know.
Rob_the_Sparky 9 Posted March 28, 2008 There are loads of GBoxes around, just post a wanted ad... I have one lying around (very rattly so only if you are desperate) and have donated a couple more in my time. Miles is is worth talking to if you want a re-built box. BE1s are generalyl easier to get hold of as people don't seem to like them, although I've yet to have a problem with a BE1 and actaully prefer the gear layout of a BE1 (reverse by 1st rather than opposite 5th).
