HI

i have a 1992 1.6 cti and i want to do an engine coversion (1.9 mi).

The 1.6 engine only have 46,850 km from new :) , and today i found a 405 mi16 (USA version, only 3 in the entire country) for sale. It have 125,000 miles on the clock and several owners. The engine looks, sounds an run ok, but it will need a rebuilt ?

The other option is that a few months i receive as a gif a bare mi16 engine(usa version). but i need all the other bits.

I´m planning to buy the complete mi16 car an do the conversion and them sale the others parts. they are asking 1,225 GBP for the car.

will apreciate any comments.

Ariel

The USA version is the same as we had here in Australia, ie it has the DFW engine. In addition, California cars were further detuned by a special version of the 3 row ECU. I think it's a 167 from memory. Others end in 161. That seems a steep price for car that's travelled that distance, but local markets might be different. Engine condition is purely a function of servicing with something that old. It might be perfect, or it could be junk. Look for tell signs of infrequent oil changes (varnish) and poor coolant quality. What condition are the liners in your other engine? Can all the other parts you need be purchased for less? 1225 GBP buys a lot of good bits!

thanks for your reply.

I'll stay with the 1.6. I really want more power but i don't want to get an engine that old. Other option is to use a xu10j4r from a 406 that are easiest to get here, but i don't know how diferent will be in performance.
