Very interesting read, it would be good to see pics of how the driveshaft arrangement turned out.

I am. Its got to be cheaper to fit this engine and get it up to 240Bhp than modifying my GTI-6 engine from standard up to that power level.

I do have an MI16 motor sat in the shed, but given the cost of parts to get to the std power of a Type R motor it seems to make financial sense with the bonus of reliability.....

Almost fit and forget you could say.

If I do decide to go that way it will become a longer term project though due to finance, the plan was to have it running in 6 months, stripped, weld in cage, engine built and track ready.

Yeah and at 240bhp the mi16 would be a nightmare to drive. That integra dc5 engine pulls from 1500rpm till 9k like it's life depended on it.

Mi16's are old news. People waste far too much money and then don't get the power figures at the end. Then it blows up or spins a shell. Do it a favour and take it to the scrapyard. It might come back as something useful. Like a toaster.

Regards David.

My engine was in and had mounts made in one day.

I'm up for that number too, AND, may I suggest a K20 conversion driveshaft group buy???

If 10 or more of us want some, could get the price down a bit for a batch...

Just a thought

EDIT: Sorry for cluttering up the thread asking for parts!

But here's some relevant questions:

Also fitted the rear dampers:

rear_dampers.jpg

The rear is turreted for coilovers and the numerous benefits they bring.

So, have you removed the torsion bars? Or is it a lowered torsion bar with coilover assist?

If its assisting, how did you work out spring rates etc?

Right if you want the shafts for the honda conversion ring Watson Rally and he will sort it out for you. He said he is happy to do a group buy.

He has done 450 conversions with the honda engine. And only had 2 sets go and they were on a grasstracker with an integra engine.

They use some special spring steel. Maybe m28 or something. adds a little bit of flexibility so they dont snap and can take the shock.

Torsion bars and coilovers. Colin's "developed" suitable rates over several years and cars.

At I guess I would say it's a Gti one with rare inserts blocking 2 of the spotlight holes.

I was under the impression XS bumpers were the same as standard, just with 2 spots mounted in them.

Having said that I saw an XS with the inserts so I might be wrong

XSI bumpers is the GTI bumper with chrome inserts and the outer driving lights blanked, which is what this one has. We've now got the mapping all sorted out and it's pretty seriously punchy and rapid, very pleased with it. One of those cars that you seem to keep throwing gears at and it leaps forward with the same enthusiasm after each change.

I'm trying to avoid giving figures from rolling roads these days, because they just aren't consistent enough from what I've been seeing, but from the session and injector duty etc, I'd estimate around 225bhp. I'm sure you could probably tune the pipes differently for around the 240bhp some people are claiming, but the punchy delivery we've got from this is the way I like things. Also getting around 40-42mpg average so far.

MOT (massively easy emissions pass!)

Ready for the rollers

DTA for the win! Although cam phasing substantially increases the complexity of the mapping, it's so easy to manipulate with DTA, it didn't take me long to get a feel for what worked well
