Kennyb 0 Posted March 23, 2008 Bloody hell!!!!!! Thats taken ages, im finally back ont internet after 6 months nearly of arguements with tiscali!!!! Anyone wanting to change to tiscali i advise not to....... just dont..... their cust service is absolutaly terrible!!! Anyway head needs shims doing cos my engine is tappy on startup n then quietens down after 30secs or so. Been told its prob shims anyway..... Just wanting to know how much on average people thinks its gonna cost n also any recomendations in lancashire area......My mate said skip browns but then again he has alot of money n i dont cheers gonna check bank account now and donate some money ;-)
nick 3 Posted March 23, 2008 If it's only for thirty seconds why bother with all the trouble and expense? also, to me it doesn't sound like shims, if it was shims, it wouldn't just go away after thirty seconds. Nick
welshpug 1,657 Posted March 23, 2008 when w3as the oil changed last and what filter was used?
Kennyb 0 Posted March 23, 2008 Well the reason for it is.........im gonna be selling it soon, fund a baby n i also have the project comin on more, and would prob cost me alot of money cos people would say.....'blimey that sounds fooked'....and not realise that its actually fine. The tickyness always stays but is less pronounced after a minute. Just really quite loud. Changed the oil n had a flush bout 4 months ago n new valeo filter fitted. It has started to develop a sump gasket leak though n this means i've topped it up a couple of times since then. Could the sump leak mean pressure dont keep oil in the top end or sumet maybe???? Im not a mechanic im a painter so not fully understanding about engine internals.
nick 3 Posted March 23, 2008 I would guess that the exhaust manifold is cracked, that sounds "tappity" and quietens down when the engine gets warm. Nick
DamirGTI 342 Posted March 23, 2008 I would guess that the exhaust manifold is cracked, that sounds "tappity" and quietens down when the engine gets warm. Nick Ditto , could be cracked exh. manifold or blowing out from the manifold gaskets or from the manifold to downpipe mesh ring .. Rgs ! Damir
Kennyb 0 Posted March 23, 2008 Nope soz defo not thats what i thought at first, fitted 4 2 1 manifold last month n still same, also checked old manifold when came off and no cracks anywhere.....

nick 3 Posted March 23, 2008 Still don't understand how non-hydraulic tappets can quieten down after 30 secs... Nick
Kennyb 0 Posted March 23, 2008 Still don't understand how non-hydraulic tappets can quieten down after 30 secs... Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted March 23, 2008 I'm not sure if the Valeo filters have the non-drain valve in them that the Purflux (OE supplier to Peugeot) have? It may be worth trying a genuine Peugeot/Purflux filter, this may help keep the oil in the head and hence will mean the car quietens down sooner after start up.
