Intermitent Starting

Recommended Posts

Guest Tony-turbo

Had the engine out of the car the last week, all back in now. Its a Phase 1 1.9 gti (309)

Sometime starts, sometimes doesnt, turns over fine, fuel present in rail.

When it doesnt run there is no spark or fuel coming out of the injectors. I have tried a different ignition amp from the scrapyard but no different.

Coil Positive side has 1 wire a 12v supply (Grey wire from Fuse 1) with ignition

Coil Negative site has 3 wires, 1 large and two shielded cables.

I have taken the dizzy sensor off and this bells out ok although it is a 3 pin connecter on one end (Is one pin not connected?)

Any Ideas?

Surely if it was the coil that was faulty then the injectors would work?

Cheers,

Tony.

Fuel pump is working fine and there is pressure in the fuel rail,

I cant think how the fuel pump is linked to the lack of spark either?

no spark or fuel. dizzy signal cable is required to send signal to the ignition amp AND the tach relay to energise the fuel pump.

If you DO have an immobiliser, check inder the dash and make sure the wires are ok. I had this problem, and it turned out to be a wire not connected to the immobiliser fusebox properly. Sometimes it started, sometimes not.
