Plugs ? What Are Your Opinions ?

What are peoples opinions on the best set of plugs for a 205 1.9 gti ?

 

 

i have used NGK R's but they have let me down in next to no time so i have tried using Bosch

 

I am using Bosch super plus yttrium plugs (+8 FR 7 DC+) that is the actual plugs i am using now :)

My vote goes to NGK plugs :) never ever had any problems with them , they work good even on modified engine :o

Try Platinum equivalent of normal 7 grade ones : BCP 7EVX (but they're not cheap :o )

il see how these Bosch ones go for now , but these were about £5.50 a plug so il will try ngk's if these are no good

NGK's are great. Not a fan of Bosch really though

 

What NGK's were you using? Race plugs or just normal ones with R written on them (i.e. resistor plugs)?

Again I always use NGK's, The last set of Bosch plugs a customer supplied didn;t even get as far as starting the car

I've had alot of misfires with Super 4s on various Peugeots, instantly cured with regular NGKs!

I've been doing this professionally for 22 years now and before that I spent my childhood hanging around garages belonging to 2 different family members and I can honestly say that I have never had a problem with NGK plugs. On the other hand I have had occasional serious problems with Bosch and I have learned to hate Champion with a vengeance :) I have had great experiences with the NGK technical department and I've used their products in everything from Morris Minor to Ferrari Daytona. NGK are all I ever use nowadays. Where can I collect my commission from the NGK factory for saying this on here?

True , Champion plugs are real s**t :( me thinks that they're the worst plugs which money can buy :):ph34r:

Agreed, Champion are s*ite.

 

You can use NGK "R" plugs fine - they're all R plugs these days unfortunately :) cheaper to manufacture or something.

In my humble opinion R plugs should be better because they would reduce the risk of ECU interference in a modern car.

well i put NGK R's in my when i did a engine swap just before Christmas and now they have died :(

 

well the engine i put in had been stood and not run for 2 and a half years so might of when i started to use the engine again collected some s**t on them and only took affect just now :ph34r: so lasting about four months not good at all :)

 

also was a real bas**rd to get out was stuck in there proper has to use some penetrating oil down the plug holes and leave for a few hours , and i did not dop them up too tight just nip them with a 3/8 ratchet .

When you say they have "died" what do you mean? I can't believe that all four have stopped working at the same time, if one was breaking down you would probably just get a missfire under load.

 

Another vote for NGK by the way, I use these in my bike (250 two stroke, about the worst thing for eating plugs) and always have, the bike does less than 1000 miles a year and will stand un-started for a couple of months at a time, it always fires first kick every time...... these were last changed 4 years ago.....

well one was breaking down , as i could pull away and it was like i had skippy under my bonnet lol but then would be ok for a while , then go again , but strangely i went up a hill which was a 40 limit and had the car in 5th so under quite a bit of load , and was doing 40 before u ask lol . and didnt miss a beat .

 

i think it was just one or 2 plugs breaking down

I've seen all 4 plugs die before. I've also seen all 6 plugs die on a 6 cylinder engine. It's usually caused by another engine fault causing the plugs to foul and short out. In such cases the plugs can be cleaned on a plug cleaner (as appropriate to plug type) and used again.

That isn't the same as the plugs dieing though is it!!?? Thats like sticking diesel in it and saying all my injectors have died at the same time!!

 

The point I'm making is that plugs in an otherwise healthy engine will work faultlessly for thousands of miles, it's usually some other problem killing the plugs. Excluding a plug just wearing out, in 30 years of tinkering with engines I can't remember ever having a plug just "die" without there being some other problem to cause it's death!!

Then clearly you have never been foolish enough to use Champion plugs over the last 30 years then :) Seriously though I take your point. However when the plugs become fouled they do, in effect "die" and fitting another set appears to cure the problem. This leads many people unfairly to blame the plugs for their problem.

Thats the point I'm making, the chances of all four plugs dieing in a healthy engine must be in the millions to one!!
