christopher 5 1 Cars Posted March 21, 2008 (edited) Hi, I have to replace my brake discs and they seem fairly rusted on. What is the best way to remove them without damaging anything? Last time I did this on a ford I tried a puller but ended up giving them a hefty wack with a hammer... I have a 2kg beam removal one I'm thinking of using Edited March 21, 2008 by christopher

Peetypug 5 Posted March 21, 2008 i just give them a tap all the way round from both sides then they will work loose silly question i know but have you taken the 2 disk retaining screws off?
Dan Ingram 1 Posted March 21, 2008 Rubber mallet, tap one side then the other repeatedly untill it comes off. Usually works for me.

Even with the screws in place the discs still come off when you hit them with a hammer, the heads of the screws snap off and once the disc is off the hub you can undo the remains of the screw with molegrips. McDude 33 Posted March 21, 2008 I did my front discs this morning - once the two retaining screws were out they were free, practically wobbled off the hub! Whole job must have taken a couple hours start to finish (including getting all the tools out and packing up). Would have thought that if they are rusted in place, doing as suggested and giving it a crack with a hammer at the edges would sort it out. You might damage the discs, but you said you were replacing them. I'd think you could get fairly agricultural without damaging the hubs. Good luck.

I wondered if i could damage the bearings or something by wacking with a hammer thats all..I would like the brakes not to wobble this time
