Polishing Old Fondmetals?

Recommended Posts

shooter mcgavin

after a long time looking i got hold of a set of what i think is the best looking wheels for the 205

they are in quite bad shape so i have started the refub

so far i have cleaned up the spokes ready for paint and have took out all the kirb marks from the rim.have also worked the rim from 120 grit up to 360,the next stage is to fit the wheel to the car jack it up and start 800 then 1200 wet and dry with soap and water.not the safest way i know but it has worked for me in the past as you can see by my speedline pic

dose anyone have any tips pointers or better ways of getting a really good shine on the rims?

I will probaly use autosol metal polish then degrease and lacor the lot

i got a big polishing mashine that i do all my alloy polishing on :):P

basicaly its just a case of sanding out all the imperfections in the alloy and then just going thrugh the different stages of polishing mops and compounds. you can get little polishing kits that you use in the drill, or you could just go thrugh different stages of wet n dry sandpaper and then autosol to polish to a nice shine

Those look damn cool, I've got a spare set of these too (Xsara VTS wheels) might give that a go.

My Goodwood's wheels were a bit dull when I got it, bit of elbow grease with some wet'n dry moving to autosol metal polish did the trick.
