samauty 0 Posted March 20, 2008 Hi, i have a 1.6 89 gti, and i have been driving it around since jan this year, and so far it is going very well (touch wood). However, there are one or two problems. 1. i have only driven my 1.6 gti and i am not sure if they are all like this but when the car has warmed up (i.e temp gauge about a 1/4? is that correct) the power just seems a bit flat. Its fine if your floor it and theres quite a bit of poke, but half throttle it seems poor; if the car is underload too, ie. a few people in the car, it seems to lack in grunt. when its cold, the engine seems to have more torque? 2. The car will start first crank when cold (i.e left overnight), but if it has been run, come to start it 20mins later, and it takes ages to fire - bit embassing when gals are in the car I have replaced the ignition amp, coil and plugs recently. Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted March 20, 2008 get someone with 205 experience to set up your timing properly, also stick a guage on the fuel line and check the fuel pressure, sounds symptomatic of low fuel pressure (lazy old pump) as well.

Well .. do remove the girls from the car Jokes aside , me thinks that it just need a good service/adjusting - ignition timing and fueling (AFM) .. but id clean and flow test the injectors first , replace the fuel filter , air filter , engine temp. sensor and then adjust the fueling/AFM and ignition timing Regards ! samauty 0 Posted March 21, 2008 thats great. ive replaced the fuel and air filter, but ill stick a new ecu temp sender on - can you get them from gsf, or is it a main stealers job? Also the fuel/air mixture adjuster on the air flow meter, is that only for the tick over?
richsmells 2 Posted March 21, 2008 Fine from gsf. They have a blue plug. About £10.

Yes you can buy the ecu temp. sensor in your local car parts store (or order one from GSF..) as they fit to various types/brands of cars not just Peugeot .. what ever you do - do not buy him from Peugeot as they want 20.00 quid for the temp. sensor The allen screw on the AFM is for idle mixture settings only , ideally you'll need full adjustment (AFM spring tension) on the rolling road .. but do try to clean the injectors first (remove them by yourself and take them to some car mechanic who has an ultrasonic cleaning machine .. it's not so cheap but it can do wonders on the fuel consumption , throttle response/acceleration especially if they haven't been cleaned for a long time in the past ) Regards !
