MrG 3 Posted March 18, 2008 Right as per Henrys topic below I m having bash at the beam bushes, so I have the wheels off, calliper ready to come off, just managed to release the handbrake cable from the calliper but can I get it through that hole in the housing, no I can't, no matter what I do it just doesn't go through the hole. Is there another way? Is it supposed to go through the hole in the casting? The guide on the articles page on the main site says push with a flat bladed screwdriver, but push what? It just doesn't want to go through the housing. Does the big black sheath go all the way through the hole and stop at the other end? Its not seized at all, and the cable itself is free moving I just can't get the lot from the calliper? These things are sent to try us, but I'm damn sure I am not having a garage do it, I bought the car to do myself and thats what I really want to do. Thanks. jackherer 543 Posted March 18, 2008 They can get pretty corroded in and you can end up damaging them during removal at the caliper end. If the cables (and calipers) are reusable just disconnect them from the handbrake lever end instead.
MrG 3 Posted March 18, 2008 I think i'll give that a go tomorrow.
kate205gti 4 Posted March 18, 2008 ive just had the opposite problem with mine trying to put it back together! the casing is "teethed" so could just be rusted in - try WD40 and a smack with a rubber mallet?
MrG 3 Posted March 18, 2008 I'll do that to, nothing is easy it would seem!!
StuF215 1 1 Cars Posted March 18, 2008 You need to hit the metal lug thing which presses into the hole in the caliper. The black cable sheath should stop at this lug, go through it and come out as the bare cable other side going to the arm on the caliper. Hit it hard from the arm mech side of it so it comes out of the handbrake side. A hammer and punch or old screwdriver will do it.
MrG 3 Posted March 19, 2008 Cheers Kate & Stu, the hammer and screwdriver did the trick, two whacks and it was out, I now have the callipers off, and the exhaust off!! Took 30mins tops, wish I'd asked the question sooner. Lower the beam tomorrow night.
