1.9 Oil Cooler

Recommended Posts

Apologies if this has been asked hundreds of times before but my oil cooler is currently leaking out oil as quickly as I can put it in, so I think a replacement is needed, however my local pug dealer wants £160 for the cooler alone

So I was wondering if it's possible to use something like a Mocal 7 or 10 row cooler instead, will the larger one fit in the original position and will the fittings line up, or will I need to start re routing pipes?

More to the point, is the oil cooler actually needed? I've done a few trackdays already and have never seen the oil get so hot that I would worry about it...even with my knackered cooler :);)

Its up to you, in the Uk you don't really need the oil cooler, even on track but if you want to keep one fitted a similar Mocal one will fit but possibly not on the original mounts & afaik the plate under the filter could be different. (the one I have is).

Is the cooler body leaking or the hose to it? The hoses are more common for leaking as they chaff through due to engine movement.

Graham.

It's definately the cooler body, the bottom five rows are soaked in oil, while the top three rows, hoses and fittings are completely dry, the hoses look to be in suprisingly decent condition, so I suspect the previous owner has changed them at some point.

Thanks for the advice, I'll probably try running without the cooler for a few motnhs and see how it goes.
