Theo205 0 Posted March 17, 2008 After tracing some mayo in my oil I found that the first liner was leaking from its seal . I had to remove a liner and replace the seals and I thought i should change the piston rings aswell. After consulting the parts CD ,I got the piston ring sets from Pug Dealer with part number 064061 (can anybody confirm?) The problem is that although the compression rings look identical to the old compression rings, the oil ring doesnt. Its completely different. The old ring is steel with some sort of spring on the inside in order to keep it pushing to be tight I guess. The new oil spring looks like metal railroad tracks with a spring pushing it together in a circle. I tried it on the piston but it was too big. I was bigger than the piston and the liner. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y249/Theo205/SANY1661.jpg Left New ring Right Old ring I suspect that it is made that way in order to be able to remove extra pieces an make it fit your piston? I dont know anybody had expirience changing piston rings from dealer? Thanx Theo
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 18, 2008 After consulting the parts CD ,I got the piston ring sets from Pug Dealer with part number 064061 (can anybody confirm?) Thats the right part number according to servicebox for the XU5, 7 & 9 engines but how much to big is it for your pistons & liners? They changed the piston ring design afaik on later engines to give better oil control. You need to compress them to get them into the liners but iirc they shouldn't be that much bigger than the piston but won't fit into the liners without being compressed. Graham. Theo205 0 Posted March 18, 2008 Thanx for the reply Graham They have about the same diameter to the old ring. But no gap so that they can be compressed. After think it it over maybe this spring uses all the tiny gaps around it to add up and equal the big gap on the old ring? I need to be 100% shure before proceeding . Should I just try and compress them and thats all? Thats they way this system works? Thanx Theo
jord294 92 Posted April 27, 2008 (edited) how did you get on with the problem you had Theo? am i right in thinking, that if you use the oe peugeot rings, you don't have to worry about the end gaps? Edited April 27, 2008 by jord294
Sandy 191 Posted April 27, 2008 You should always check them, but without any significant wear, they're always spot on.
