Do I Need Two Fans For A Mi 16 Conversion

Recommended Posts

smokey

Hiya guys

Stripped down the front of my CTI ready to take out the old engine and i noticed i only have 1 fan. Probably due to it being a 1.6.

Anyway the cowling has 2 sections for fans so i was wondering should i get a 2nd fan seeing i'm putting a Mi 16 in?

If i do do both fans run separatly or are they joined but a rubber band?

Thanks

Single fan will be fine.

yep.. got a single fan on my 6. Works fine, try and get hold of a fan switch that kicks in lower though as these help!

The two fan setup is cool. On low speed they're hooked up in series. Then on high speed they hook up in parallel.

They all have space to accommodate two fans but the 1.9GTi had an oil cooler in the left hand space whereas the 1.6 a cooler. One fan is fine though.

In the UK one fan is fine but in much hotter climates two might be a better idea. Peugeot certainly thought so, they fitted twin fans in certain parts of the world.

Your local motor factors or somewhere like that! They have a list of the different temperatures, my high speed fan kicks in at around 95 iirc. i think there is about 5 different ones.

Make sure you get the correct one for your plug type though as the older ones are different.

Pug do them but they are about 25-30 quid ..!! as opposed to 9 quid

My Pug dealer offered me different temp fan switches, the plastic coloured band was a different colour for the different temperatures. The price varied massively dependant on which temp one.

One fan should be more than enough as long as the cooling system is up to scratch.
