Rear Shoes 1992 Gti 1.6

Recommended Posts

Ricardo

Is there a way of knowing which make of shoes my 1.6 has without removing the drums? Rear mounting plate? Looking through the wheel bolt holes?

Were they standardized by year? Mine was first reg'd 14/02/92.

Can I tell by chassis/VIN #?

Only had the car a couple of months and the nearside is sticking, I've got new cables to fit as I drag half a ton of gravel down the road untill it lets go! :P

Any pointers would be great. (maybe buy both types and refund the unused?!)

Cheers

Not really, it should have Girling rear brakes but if you get these & it hasn't you should be able to swap them for the Bendix ones where you bought them.

(Bendix rear shoes are 30mm wide where the 1.6 GTi has 40mm ones along with most other models)

Graham.
