petert 601 Posted March 14, 2008 It doesn't need a gasket. The best stuff I've found is ThreeBond 1211. It's designed for metal-metal sealing, especially motorcycles. So perfect for the job.
welshpug 1,666 Posted March 14, 2008 Dow Corning is one of the biggest manufacturers of this kind of stuff, got an acquaintance that works for them as theres a massive plant in Barry, south wales. you'll probably find that most stuff is made by them under different brands the general rule on pugs is; steel sump - gasket, alloy sump - sealant. I tend to use Wurth sealants if I can get it, or Meillor is a common brand. general rule is to be as clean as possible and let the stuff start to set before fitting the sump, roughly half an hour or so, and leave the engine to stand for as long as you can before running is to keep the oil off the sealant. don't overdo the tightening of the bolts either, as this tends to squeeze the stuff out.
