My Old Pas Rack - Can It Be Saved?

Recommended Posts

So having looked at the PAS rack, its not obvious to me how to go about changing the bent track rod.

Then again, even if i could, GSF dont seem to stock replacement arms for the nearside, and ECP sounds like a blatant lie;

That gaiter looks a bit shagged Ben. The track rod unscrews from the inner end (after removing the shagged gaiter :angry: ). It doesn't have any spanner flats on it, so you'll need something like a pair of Stilsons to grip it with.

Tie rods are the same on pas and non-pas models and just unscrew when the gaitor is removed. They are not handed either afaik.

Yes agree with other posts. Pry the rubber boot off with a screwdriver (there is a metal ring at the end closest to the bellows so you can give it some pressure. Then pair of stilsons or mole grips to grip the track rod and unscrew. Track rods are the same on either siode of the rack even though the stockists tell you otherwise. Bought some from GSF a few months ago - seem to remember about £12 each

Definitely salvagable and wont take more than a few minutes to do

Might need to get a new rubber boot as well but again only a few quid
