Meat Required On Clutch Plate

Recommended Posts

Read on here a while ago about the thickness of a new clutch plate but cant find it again.

I've got 3mm+ left before the rivets on both sides, would you put it in or go with a new one?

3mm sounds like a brand new clutch!

I usually judge it by the "grooves" in the material, e.g. if they are still visable then its viable to re-use IMO. 3mm sounds loads to me.

 Good news then, save me buying a clutch !

Thought it looked Ok but wasn't too sure as its my first time with pug clutches.

It's off my old 205 TD so should be up to the job with the Mi16.

Looks like it has plenty of life left, not as shiny as mine though ;)

But it's got bigger springs ;)

But everyone knows bigger springs are softer :P

And that means mines lighter.

I didn't think the TD clutch was as big as the MI clutch? (220mm IIRC)

It's cheap (nowt) and it fits so it's going on ;)

just measured it and the clutch plate is 220mm and the face on the Mi flywheel is ever so slightly bigger, I'm not good at mms so I'd say it's about 1/16 inch bigger all the way round, that would be 1/16 radious bigger I think.

Anyway, the pressure plate fits and there's not enough difference in size to matter I think. If the clutch is up to a turbo diesel then it will be Ok for the Mi16.

Unless I'm wrong again

215mm actually  1.9 Mi and 1.8 TD both use push type 215mm, 2.0 mi gti6 anmd 1.9 TD use pull type 215mm, but IIRC the friction plate is near identical ;)

That's me with a Turbo clutch then B)

no expense spared on this motor :D

Just need to clean up the 1.6 box tomorrow and glue it together. Calling at Autofive on Friday for braided hoses and some coolant hoses (the inaccessable ones while it's out).......jobs a good un

Id be careful, as i found out the hard way you should always replcae the clutch when fiting an engine, mine looked `ok` and slipped after about 2000 miles..... (same with the cambelt and rear engine mount.....)

This one looks as if it hasn't been in long so I'm pretty confident B)

New cambelt and pulleys though and I'm using the bottom mount off the turbo as it looks nearly new as well so heres hoping. ;)
