Head Gasket Thickness

Recommended Posts

sticking a new gasket on the 205 (it's been on the way out for 3 years so it's amazing it lasted this long with a turbo on it !) at present. factors say they can offer me 1.25 mm or 1.5mm? it's 88 model with torx head bolts - 1.9 xu9ja - anyone know?

thanks very much

Hi !

I like to use thin 1.25/1.30mm gaskets in order to keep the squish clearance lower down to assist combustion ... but both of them 1.25 mm and 1.50mm will do just fine B)

Regards ! :(

EDIT :wait a minute just spotted now , you have turbo on this engine ? :( if so then id chose the thicker one 1.50mm :)

As Damir says the thin gasket aids squish which helps achieve a more complete combustion, but if you are running turbocharged then a slight drop in CR could be to your advantage. I'm making the same consideration at the moment and haven't decided which way to go yet!

Sorry for OT :) but on how much pressure are you running this engine ? which piston type , DKZ ones ?

Looks like it's been built properly if it's lasted for 3years :(

Rgs !

thanks. seems the different types are for hex (thinner) or torx (thicker) bolts. i have torx bolts so went with thicker one thinking of turbo as well. engine is original engine. has had a tough life - new shells after oil pump sheared off at 7000rpm. overheated regularly for last 3 years, turboing finally brought the gasket to an early demise. all good now though sounds better than ever!
