Some New Rust Found

Recommended Posts

smokey

Hiya guys

Whilst sanding down the car the other night i decided to remove the front lights and indicators so could rub down the edges without hitting the lights.

Anyway when the lights were removed i saw some rust bubbles on the pannel directly behind/below the lights. Had a poke and it crumbled away. The only thing holding it was the underseal inside the wheel arch.

Drivers side

Passenger side

My plan is to cut out any more and weld a new plate in place, then reapply underseal for the inside of the wheel arch.

I was wondering if there were any other good ways of fixing this, like cutting the same pannel from another car so that its like for like.

To be honest i'm quite a perfectionist so i would prefer to do it that way, but when the lights are in place and the wheel arch undersealed, it wont be seen, so i guess the mild steel plate would work too.

Let me know

Thanks

tbh the easiest thing probably would be to get a new pattern front panel ,rip off the old one. Pattern ones are about £50 iirc (http://www.carpanels.co.uk/) and come as a complete front iirc.

if you look in my restoration diary in my sig i did a similar thing on mine.

Wicked thanks fella.

I just got off the phone to them when you posted this.

The part i mentioned is the 2 headlamp panels and the top panel.

The part you listed is just the individual headlamp panels

There is another part number which isn't listed on the site which is all 3 three of those and a botom section too.

So it basically depends on how much i want to replace.

Will check it over tonight. Thanks again.

Will be happier that its being replaced like for like rather than having loads of patches on it :-)

Tom Fenton

Best way is to replace the headlamp panels, you'll need to remove the wings to do this properly, have a look for a thread in the members works sections by me about my track car rebuild, there are lots of photos in there of when I did it.
