jord294 92 Posted March 8, 2008 hello everyone i have a bit of an issue, and don't know how to go about it. i like to think i am very capable to do any job on the gti, but this last problem has got me stumped. i'm sure someone out there can put me on the right track i need to remove the fuel filler neck and piping from inside the rear o/s wheel arch. where the cap locates the plastic has broken halfway round, so cap won't seal i know there is 2 torx headed screws at the fill end, and only a couple of hose clips where the larger diameter pipe joins the petrol tank. but i just can't seem to remove it am i missing a hidden clip, clamp, bolt, screw ???????? cheers
Paintguy 0 Posted March 8, 2008 Do you have the replacement part already? If so, have a look at that to see if there are any other mounting points - that's what I always do

Paintguy 0 Posted March 8, 2008 Maybe somebody with a parts CD could post you a decent sized picture of it. I seem to remember that there's a bolt around halfway up under the wheel arch, but I can't be certain.
danpug 1 Posted March 8, 2008 I *think* theres a nut that needs to be undone near the hose clips, its probably covered in dirt and very rusty. If you have already done that then its a matter of forcing the pipe out of the rubber part.
de Noir 0 Posted March 8, 2008 (edited) You need to remove both rubber hoses between fuel tank and filler pipe. That would be fuel tank pipe and degassing pipe. Behind them is a washer nut that holds the whole filler pipe assembly to inner wing. Edited March 8, 2008 by MH_

danpug 1 Posted March 9, 2008 The thickest pipe iirc has a plastic tab on it, this has the bolt attached to it. It may well be hidden under the small pipe, i really can't remember though as its been a couple of years since i did it.

Undo clips, and pull hoses down. You may need use considerable force. Loosening fuel tank may help. Once rubber is down, you'll see the washer nut. Undo it carefully, as rusty bolt snaps easily when doing it. Use plenty of rust remover. is there a bolt or something that goes through from inside of car that might hold the pipe in place? No, there is not. Edited March 9, 2008 by MH_

jord294 92 Posted March 10, 2008 well i've had the complete oilcooler set up and the central locking solenoids for £20. still got half leather rear seats and interior. no front seats, as i'm sure it'd been fitted with bucket seats. i'm sure it was the same car advertised on ebay and local free paper a couple of weeks ago. they were asking £
