Firing Orders, Dizzy's And Plug Leads.

OK,

Let me put you in the picture. I have an MI16 with R1 Carbs, Dizzy adaptor with three position mounting holes.

I can get it to run, and I can have it running well, but I am not happy about the dizzy position.

If I bring Pot 1 (nearest clutch) to TDC and follow that plug lead to the Dizzy cap, it seems that the rotor arm is a mile away from the point in the cap and it is further than the adjustment of the adaptor will allow.

Have I got the leads on the wrong terminals on the Dizzy cap? Is it allowed, to set the dizzy so the rotor arm meets with one point on the cap, then put plug lead one to it, then follow them round plugging in 2-3-4 in sequence?

What is the exact firing order, so if I set pot one to the first point on the dizzy, which cylinder comes next? and so on...

Do you see what I mean or am I making no sense?

Cheers, ORB

Miles

There are so many of these around and most are crap cutting to the point, I;ve just fitted one and the dizzy needed extra spacing as the adpator was not thick enough and allot of meterial had to be ground off the bottom to miss the Stat housing.

I;ve seen the Dizzy's mounted in all sorts of positions from the leads pointing upwards to downwards as I prefer not that it makes any differance and the Dizzy's have the end's cut off the slot's so you can get enough movement in them but you might need just to drill some new holes really as I doubt the people that make them just copied one.

Firing order is : 1-3-4-2 (No.1 cylinder on the flywheel side of course :) ) , you can cut in the new slot in the dizzy shaft to reposition the arm

Thanks!

But, can I put the leads in any position on the cap, just as long as the firing order stays the same 1-3-4-2 ??

Cheers.

Cool, that helps.

So, Pot one to TDC, set the rotor to fire at pot one then go on from there? ? ?

I had to drill and tap new holes in the adaptor so that the dizzy could be rotated to the correct position, i think this is pretty common with these adaptors.
