Deeper Sump On Mi To Overcome Surge?

Recommended Posts

sutol

Leaned through search that it may be benficial to use deeper sump on Mi to help overcome oil surge.

This should help keep oil cooler as well as there is more of it ciculating (hopefully) .

Has anyone used a deeper baffled sump with extra oil ? :(

It's got a spacer but the sump is shallower than the diesel one that I have spare.

Oh. Use 2? :(

No seriously, a deeper sump is only going to increase oil capacity and in that respect compensates for oil surge by there simply being an extra litre of oil to spray around. Wang a windage tray in, your baffles and the plate, and unless you're gonna be on slicks round Oulton Park I suspect you'll be OK.

I would have thought more capacity without lowering the pickup would be pointless?

That's correct, but I thought was implied.

Deeper sump was a suggestion on here somewhere to keep oil cooler and prevent surge when baffled. I can understand the cooling aspect but am baffled about the surge bit, ........anyway,

Will be on semi slicks round Oulton and giving it some despite my age :P

Looked at sump baffle designs today and will fabricate something over the weekend in my shallow sump

It's well documented on my website, but in summary, use a spacer plate with either the early 205 A/C sump or the XU10 baffled sump. They're both the same depth. As already said, you will need to extend the pickup. It should then take 7L from dry, with oiler cooler, remote filter etc. Naturally you'll need to baffle the 205 sump.

I run the same setup on semi-slicks. Works a treat, when combined with 26T crank sprocket and 2L relief spring. I have an idiot light set to 25psi. It only ever comes on at idle when the oil is hot.
