1.9 Cti And 1.9 Gti Power Difference ?

Recommended Posts

Wrighty_1988

Hello been reading up about CTi's as i wouldnt mind getting one for better weather comming up. Only thing putting me off is thta the 1.9 CTi seems to have 105 bhp and the hard top 130bhp. Could someone please tell me the reason for this ?, and could the cti engine be made upto the 130 bhp easily ?. Thanks

tis a different engine, much lower compression .

a different camshaft and valves IIRC are the main differences apart from the compression ratio.

IMO better off going for a 1.6 CTI the power delivery of the 1.6 (115bhp) suits it much better.

Hello !

As said the 1.9 CTi engine has different camshaft , smaller valves and also different pistons :P , the crowns of the CTi pistons are "flat" (well not completely flat but just slightly dished compared to the 1.9 D6B/DKZ pistons .. 9cc dish on CTi pistons and 15cc dish on D6B ones , if i'm not mistaken :( ) and they are popular for rising the CR in D6B/DKZ engines - when fitted inside D6B/DKZ block instead of the OE pistons they give around 11.1 CR :P

They are also cambelt safe if it snaps that is, that gives you a idea of how dead the c chamber's are in the head, Quicest way is just to fit a GTi engine along with the ECU etc as the CTi's all Run CAT's too

The best solution is to find a good 130hp head/cam and fit that to the CTi block. It will need a diet of 98 octane though, but enjoy the power!

I have the 1.9 cti myself and all i have done is race cams, skimmed head, full magnex system and forced induction kit and i believe this has done the trick to match the power but the cti also carries more weight for strengthening because of the roof and hydrolics etc

Or you could put a Mi16 engine in and be even quicker B)

i was debating about changing the engine to gti-6 but in the long run i couldnt do it myself (lack of places to do it) and would have had to pay someone and it just worked out way to expensive for what i think you can achieve the same power by just tuning the old engine, from a full rebuild you now know that engine is gonna be good from all the new shiney bits you have just put in and more reliable.

Stick a blower on it! They love it!

As has been said, Cat, smaller valves, longer duration cam, lower compression etc. despite being less bhp, the torque delivery is much better. The 1.6 revs about a lot, the 1.9 doesn't need to. Also 1.9's are always newer than 1.6's and come with the nicer darker plastics and a power hood. Some even have a grey carpet and chequered door cards. You can also get atlantic blue (green) 1.9's
