Power Dip On Turbo Engine ?

Recommended Posts

Emmy Seize

I guy from a german forum asked if the question could be raised here as he himself a) is not a member and b doesn´t seem to be able to describe his problem in english.

He would like to know where the dip in the power curve might come from and if this is something to worry about (somone told him the valve springs might not be up to the raised boost-level).

Please have a look:

from what I've seen of a few of these on the rolling road the its the fuelling that struggles (AFR readout showed them leaning out mid range) can't remember whether it was a fuel pump or injector problem though.

to save them looking:

A Friend of me has build a Peugeot 205 TCT. It runs very good.

A few weeks ago, he was on a Dyno ( you can see the chart on the picture ).

He wants to know, if somebody could tell him why the power is breaking in at 4200 rpm together.

Are there any ideas?

The setup is :

Aborignal RGY engine

Engine complete overhould

Pistons with compression like a RGX

New Turbo Charger

Exhaust-system 3"

Intake-system 2,5"

Boost pressure 0,65 bar

i couldn't see the graph though?

without seeing the graph, does he have a boost gauge to monitor the boost level?

is he sure his wastegate has been set-up correctly?

it would be good to test the car with the WBO2 sensor too.

yeah that's better, thanks :P.

i still primarilly suspect something boost related, as it's a vigorous dip in power and then slowly trails upwards.

that torque figure looks a bit optimistic to me for 0.65 bars though, as that's a T16 figure at 1.1 bars :(.

T16 runs far lower compression does it not?

Miles

Mine made 325NM at 3500 rpm with 208bhp at 5600rpm at .5 bar of boost, Std engine bar 2080cc's + OMEX on a 8v 406 engine, the power and torque on that graph cross at the wrong point thou so something is amiss

Yup,that was my initial reaction looking @ the dyno graph.Seems as though there is a serious fuel cut.

Mind posting your AFR's for us to read? Also screen shots of his base map (if any).
