sutol 0 Posted March 7, 2008 Yes, what is the best way to prime the oil pump on Mi16 Search revealed much advice to prime pump but not how. I've had the engine upside down with the sump off lubricating the ends and liners as its been stood a while. I've drizzled oil into the pump whilst turning it over but its not taking much in and I'm not sure this is how to do it so any advice appeciated. DrSarty 90 1 Cars Posted March 7, 2008 Good luck you brave boy! I cheated and just fitted a '6 sump and a spacer plate. The only way I know of is literally unplugging the coil HT lead and turning over the engine to oil prime everything before starting it back up again. petert 587 Posted March 7, 2008 Yes, what is the best way to prime the oil pump on Mi16 You don't need to. It gets covered in oil when you fill the sump. Atmospheric pressure pushes it in. If you're concerned about getting oil to the galleries, that's a different matter. Take the plugs out and turn it over for 20-30 secs. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

sutol 0 Posted March 7, 2008 That's OK then, it's just that in the BX manual it states that the oil pump must be primed prior to starting the engine after a stripdown but it dosn't tell you how to prime it Some engines I've dealt with in the past would not pump oil at all unless the pup was primed with oil so that's why I worry I'll go with the plugs out method and spin it over 'till some oil appears at the cams Thanks all Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Don't know layout of your engine, but one way to prime the pump would be to drizzle oil down the camshaft feed passage/s in the block, but of course the head would need to be off to do that.
