Brakes On A 1.6 Cti

Recommended Posts

Hiya guys

I was wondering if anyone knew if the brakes on a 1.6 CTI are the same as a 1.6 GTI.

I was thinking about uprating the front brakes seeing i'm putting a Mi16 into it. I know i could get some GTI 6 brakes. But was wondering if i would need to swap the hubs, like you do for 1.6 GTI's due to them being different from Base models and 1.9 GTI's

Thanks

They have the 1.6 GTi brakes. Hubs aren't that much though, get a pair of diesel ones and you'll be fine as then you won't need to change your driveshafts.

You should be okay with uprated pads and standard calipers though.

Wicked thanks for that.

So i just need the hubs..Great. I thought i would need to replace the whole lot.

I have seen some bigger disks etc but they all say they are for the 1.9 Gti hubs.

Are there better brakes that can be fitted straight to the 1.6 hub?

With 1.6 hubs you're pretty much stuck with 1.6 brakes. :)

Any upgrades that fit 1.9 hubs will also fit base model/diesel hubs.

So would it be easier to get base model/diesel hubs rather than 1.9 gti, or is it a matter of whats available?

Why are the 1.6 so different from the others?

Unfortunately the 1.9 has a different number of driveshaft splines so you have to have 1.9 hubs and shafts :)

All the other non-abs XU and XUD engined 205s have the same driveshafts so the hubs are interchangable.

Not that I think you're looking at this kind of money but Wilwood 4-pots are a straight fit onto 1.6 hubs

I presume that Peugeot fitted the 1.6 hubs to give a greater track width, although it would seem odd that they would then chose to fit wheels that decreased the overall track width

Apparently there is another Peugeot/Citroen with the same hub offset as the 1.6 that has bigger brakes but no-one seems to ever be able to remember which one

I got fed up with the knocking from my 1.6 front calipers. 1.9 calipers (using 1.9 caliper mounting bolts) fit straight on using the original 1.6 discs.
