tonycj 0 Posted March 5, 2008 Just a quick one, my neighbour had a 205 diesel, like mine. mine at the moment is missing just after start-up, my neighbour said his used to do that and it was the ERG (whatever it is) i asked him to show me where it is and he said he couldnt remember. i would like to know if anyone on here knows about this EGR? where it is, what it does, how it breaks, how to fix it, what the symptoms are if it breaks? Many Thanks, Tony.
welshpug 1,657 Posted March 5, 2008 very much doubt that your or your neighbours 205 has EGR, as far as I know the earliest XUD to have EGR was the DHY engine (1.9 turbo) in about 1995. missing on startup is usually a symptom of knackered glow plugs (heater plugs) or worn injectors. EGR does cause problems on cars, its ExhaustGasRecirculation, and is designed to help the engine warm up faster, but in reality it more often than not just clogs up the inlet with soot/crap
ablister 31 Posted March 5, 2008 (edited) as above, alot of the modern cars are bad for them Edited March 5, 2008 by ablister
DamirGTI 342 Posted March 5, 2008 (edited) EGR does cause problems on cars, its ExhaustGasRecirculation, and is designed to help the engine warm up faster, but in reality it more often than not just clogs up the inlet with soot/crap No , you've mistaken EGR (as the name says - exhaust gas recirculation) is just an pollution/emission control device added to reduce NOx emission - EGR valve meters one %/amount of exhaust gases back into the inlet system/manifold to be mixed and burned with the regular air/fuel mixture charge ... The APH (air pre-heat) and EFE (early fuel evaporation) are systems in use for warming up the inlet air and improving fuel vaporisation in cold climates , either by using heat from the exhaust manifold (APH system) or heat from the exhaust gases (EFE system) Regards !
