Rupes 0 Posted March 5, 2008 Hi, I have a replacement 1.9GTI engine for my 1.4 205, I have most of the bits that I think I need for the transplant but I have no alternator bracket (the triagular alloy bit, not the adjustment bracket). Are they the same on XU diesels, my local scrappy has a diesel 405 but before I buy the bracket I wanted to check that they are the same. I also need a whole set of water pipes, are the XU diesel pipes the same as 1.9 petrol engine ones? I could kill two birds with one stone hopefully. Thanks for any help... Grim.Badger 15 Posted March 6, 2008 Some of the hoses are the same between the 205 diesel and GTi, I'm not sure about the 405. The 405 does have a different setup to the 205 but you may be able to bodge them. I'm fairly sure all these can be used from a 205 diesel: radiator bottom hoses, radiator top hose, block to matrix hose, expansion tank to matrix hose, expansion tank to radiator hose, expansion tank to thermostat hose. If I'm right and these are the same you will still need hoses to connect up the SAD and the Throttlebody. The oil hoses are completely different. I think your best bet would be to ask on the forum for a full set of hoses as then there should be no bodging involved. Also when using second hand hoses keep a very careful eye on them for the first month as the ends may have been damaged when they were removed from the original car and holes aren't immedietely visible in rubber. If you have the money it is well worth getting a new set, plus Baker BM and similar companies do silicoln ones for less than Pug sell the originals iirc. Rupes 0 Posted March 7, 2008 Thanks Grim.Badger, I haven't posted enough useful things on the forum to place a wanted add yet. I was wondering if I could buy a few lengths of different bore water pipe and cut it to length, I suppose I wouldn't have the pre-formed bends in the hose but maybe it wouldn't cost £160 plus P&P for a new set and I wouldn't be running the risk of damaged hoses on a 2nd hand set. It would be easier to get a decent second hand set; most of the hoses have a decent amount of excess that can be cut off if the ends are damaged. If you get ones yourself, check that they are still nicely flexible and don't have that surface cracking that really old ones do.
