Pob 1 Posted March 4, 2008 Hi, I've got a rear beam that I picked up over the weekend, If I lay the beam on the floor and stand on the trailing arm (Passenger side) The movement is smooth, If I stand on the other side it's not as smooth... Also it moves the Passenger side arm slightly but the drivers side arm doesn't move if I stand on the passenger side. I'm thinking of attempting refurbishing it as its quite crusty. I've read the article about the refurb... whats the best method to get the middle bearings out? I'm sure I've read somewhere you can bash them out with a scaffold pole or am I getting a little confused? Thanks, Dan
Atari Boy 11 Posted March 4, 2008 I called my local main deaer, Marshall Cambridge, they are going to charge me £22.50 inclusive to remove mine.
jonnie205 1 Posted March 4, 2008 you may be lucky and the beam will be savable, get it stripped down and checked and it will also want at least one new shaft
stutto 0 Posted March 5, 2008 An old trailing arm shaft, used the wrong way round, will enable you to both remove old inner bearings and seat the new ones. I also used a TB with a bolt in each end to get the inners out once they were in the middle.

One has slight ridges in it from the bearings, the other is pitted. Is there any difference between 1.6 and 1.9 torsion bars? Also what size is the anti-roll bar in the 1.6? Thanks, Dan
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 6, 2008 To remove the old inner bearings I've use an old trailing arm shaft or a suitably sized socket & extension to knock them into the middl eof the tube. An old torsion or anti roll bar with a washer on the end is good for knocking them out through one side once they are in the middle. Is there any difference between 1.6 and 1.9 torsion bars? Also what size is the anti-roll bar in the 1.6? No difference in torsion bars sizes, they should be the same as the 1.9 beam all round at ~19mm. Graham.
