i am having trouble with my revs. while driving along everything is fine, but as soon as it is idling, the revs race at 2000 revs. it is very annoying as it sound like i am accelerating all the time and everyones looking at me!! What is wrong?

Does it only start doing this as the car warms up? if so its probably the sad sticking open,

If not it could be over fueling or the buterfly stuck open...

well when it was sitting on my driveway and we started it up everyday it did do 2000 revs, slowly went down. Thought it was ok. Now taking it out driving and it still races to 2000 revs. you give it a little brap on the accelerator and it goes down to about 1500 but when drive again goes back up to 2000.

Might be an air leak, I recently had a similar problem. My leak was coming out of the throttle spindle, so varied depending upon how the accelerator cable was pulling on it. You could try using a hose as a stephoscope and poke around the intake system; it's hard to listen for escaping (or should that be inscaping?) air above the engine noise, so this method helps.

Squeeze the hose leading to the SAD when it's sat at 2000rpm odd - if the revs drop back down to normal idle then the SAD's open, whereas if it makes little difference then the problem is elsewhere and I'd start by checking the throttle cable is sticking and the throttle is closing fully (I've had a couple of throttle bodies that don't close properly and lead to intermittent fast idling)

Could be an airleak. Spray some WD40 around the inlet manifold area and if the revs drop you'll find your leak. There's a small screw that attaches the oil filler to the inlet manifold that is often missing causing similar symptoms.

If there are no airleaks then your SAD, buried somewhere under the thermostat housing may not be closing fully. When the car's warm, try squeezing a pipe connected to this. If the revs drop, the SAD is letting in air as it hasn't closed.

To be honest it probably just needs setting up properly. Make sure your breathers, throttlebody and idle screw are clean. Use some carb cleaner and some spit and polish. The idle screw should be nice and shiny. Give the afm a blast of carb cleaner too.

Next check the throttle butterfly closes fully when the accelerator is released. There is also a throttle position switch that tells the ECU when the car is at idle or WOT (wide open throttle). Therefore, as soon as the butterfly begins to open you should hear the switch click and again when the throttle is fully open. You can check this without the engine running.

If you're sure there are no airleaks, then you should adjust the idle screw so the car idles happily at 1k rpm with full electrical load. Advancing the ignition timing slightly also helps a little to get the car idling sweetly and prevent "hunting".

Edit: Everyone's beaten me to it!!
