Somthing Diffrent To The Black Trim

Recommended Posts

djinuk

I have a 205 gti in white, i am thinking about removing all the plastic trim, and using high build primer to lose the texture to it, them i will spray them and lacquer in a gloss black. Its a though ive ran through quite a few times, as well as possibly doing the trim in a gunmetal grey in the same way. Just wanted opinions on this of a few people first.

The finish will be trim that rather than just pack with back 2 black, you can actually apply to and shine with polish.

yeh, scotch them off, then use a plastic primer then the high build rub back down smooth with 800 grit and then spray colour of your choice, but make sure you plastic primer otherwise your wasting your time as itll flake off 100%

How are the door trimms removed and fitted again if the strip has been removed and filled. Cheers Phill

Good question. I was thinking that.

My guess is he used silicon sealant to fix them back on

^^^^thats the only way to do it most of my trim was held on with it anyway :D ^^^^

i wanted to do this mod on mine but then decided that the retro look is much better and i'm even putting the red stripes back on it

When the strip was filled the clips were left in so all i have to do is slide them on and they hold really well. Well all apart from the rear passenger acrch which decided to fly off on the outside lane of the A3 in rush hour the other night!! So its all very well but now instead of buying a new bit of trim i have to fill and smooth it then spray it again!! Too much like hard work but i do like it.

The way ive done it was to fix it with nuts and bolts through the mouldings and used plastic filler. Make sure to put bolts evey coulpe of inches or the sun will distort the mouldings. the rear bumper wont come off with out breaking the filler though. i used glass fibre paste for the bumpers. Then sanded the texture off with 240 grit paper until they were detexured enough to plastic prime and paint met grey.
